Support the Camp Hope kids of Ventura County
This Giving Tuesday, HFJ is doing a special fundraiser which will support expansion of the medical team that provides care at Camp Hope. The goal is $5,500 which will be able to fund a full medical team that includes 1 attending physician and 2 resident physicians to cover Camp Hope 2026.
Camp Hope is a week long overnight summer camp serving youth who have survived trauma, domestic violence, and adversity.
Why HFJ?
Dr. Walls, via HFJ, has volunteered at Camp Hope over the past two summers and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. However, given the growth of the camp a more sustainable network of healthcare providers would be beneficial.
Additionally, HFJ exists to bring trauma-informed, relationship-centered medical care to people who would otherwise go without. Supporting the youth at Camp Hope aligns directly with our mission. We believe that healing is not only clinical — it is communal. In their book Inflamed, Rupa Marya and Raj Patel write, “Deep medicine requires us to see health not as an individual pursuit but as a communal one, intertwined with justice, history, and ecology.”
Camp Hope is a place where this philosophy comes to life. For these reasons, we are seeking $5,500 which will cover physician time for providing pre-camp coordination, examinations, and all on-site medical care for kids during their week at summer camp.
“Camp Hope is transformational for the children that go as I’ve witnessed them being empowered to address the trauma they have experienced. Being there for their medical needs is an honor and a privilege.”
