The Creando Comunidad program, pioneered by Ventura County Public Health, stands as a beacon of equitable community engagement. Recognizing the intrinsic value of community members, the program compensates groups, culture bearers, and residents for their time and expertise, ensuring their contributions are equally valued. This initiative addresses the underlying inequities faced by families in survival mode while building capacity to tackle public health challenges.
Creando Comunidad trains Latinx community health workers to become Promotoras, empowering them to serve as grassroots health advocates. These dedicated individuals come together monthly to deepen their understanding of various public health subjects. Upon completion of the program, they are not only better equipped to address health challenges in their communities but are also positioned for valuable employment opportunities.
